Not Only Techniques
Aikido The Art of Movement
Aikido is the art of moving in harmony with energy—both your own and that of others (Aiki Flow). Its techniques arise not from resistance, but from blending, guiding motion with fluidity and intent.

Attacker Intention
Katate Dori Kokyu Ho is a fundamental Aikido breathing and projection exercise practiced from a single-hand grab.
In this technique, Uke is initially led by Nage forward, in the direction of Uke’s attack, and then around in a spiral path. The movement turns Uke around and over, leading into a forward roll.
Uke’s center becomes one with Nage’s center, moving like a leaf caught in a current of water, unable to resist or stop the movement.
Ukemi Integrity
If you look at most teaching manuals, they are essentially Nage centric in their approach to teaching Aikido, perhaps in the beginning of the manual there will be a brief description of how to fall, how to do a forward roll, backward roll, knee walking and so on. However, the focus of most manuals are the movements of Nage with little explanation about Uke. To better understand Aiki a better grasp of Ukemi is required. Ukemi in this context refers to the movements of uke not only how they perform the attacks but equally how they respond to nage’s defensive techniques.
Suwari Waza Kata-Dori Ura
In this technique Uke attacks Nage attempting to take control of Nage’s shoulder. This is a strong anchoring grip with the intent to control / limit Nage’s center.
Nage counters Uke’s atack with an ura movement, turning off the line of attack, pivoting around uke’s point of contact (force), and from behind applying the counter technique.
Aiki
Aiki refers to the process of unifying
with the fundamental ki out of which
existence springs forth.
To have no separation between one
self the unified individual, and the
oneness that is the universe.
Change
The subconscious is the foundation of the conscious. Consciousness in turn reinforces the subconscious. It is a self-perpetuating spiral.
Shuchu Ryoku
Cumulative power is generated when all the parts of the body work in concert to focus along the body’s axis, the force from the ground, to a focused single point on the body.
Posture, kamae, balance and focus are factors to keep in mind when generating Shuchu Ryoku.
Kaiten Nage
Kaiten Nage is commonly translated as the Rotary Throw or Wheel Throw, reflecting the circular movement that forms the essence of the technique.
Shiho Nage
Shinogi Awase (to the side) then move into nukidomn sabakiShiho Nage is performed with a single smooth unified spiraling motionaround Nage’s Center (hara) leadng Uke in the direction of the throw.
Kokyu Ho
Throwing Uke using breath power, Kokyu-Ryoku, which is in sharp contrast to the so-called muscular power, is based on the swinging movements, up down and around, of the boken and jo.
